De-Stress Your Life

Most of my clients come to a yoga class with the goal of leaving some stress behind. This past Tuesday, my friend Paula Guilbeault-Roballo, a classical homeopath, came to the studio and did a talk for us and the tips she shared were amazing!

Why do you want to keep doing yoga? Yoga is the modality that comes closest to a homeopathic treatment, Paula says. Focusing on the breath, and sending the breath deep into the lungs has an instant effect on your autonomous nervous system.

But in addition to yoga, Paula suggested that some of the food we eat may alleviate stress, but some others may trigger it.  Some of the food she suggested to eat or not to eat:

YES FOODS:
Avocados and bananas ~ Great source of potassium and will help regulate your blood pressure

Green Leafy vegetables ~ full of magnesium and helps with muscle support - Now did you know that, on average, women lose more magnesium than men? So ladies, sticking to your greens is a good idea!

Asparagus ~ source of folic acid, balances our mood

And last but not least... CHOCOLATE! Dark chocolate, in addition to helping with magnesium, will also increase serotonin, making you feel HAPPY!

NOT TO EAT:
Sugars, processed foods, coffee and tea!

So to bring balance in your life, Paula suggested: eat well, do yoga, include meditation, even if only a few minutes a day, and do activities that trigger happy hormones: hug somebody, eat with friends, pet a dog or a cat!

In our next blog, we will be talking about the effects of what we put on our skin on the regulation of our hormones.
